Enough's Enough!

Come and work for our firm,

It’s great on minimum pay!

It’s not as though you’ll need to save

For more than one holiday.

All bank holidays will be deducted

From your annual leave.

A good working relationship

Our boss cannot achieve.

If you ask for unpaid leave

It will be refused.

If you’re sick you won’t get paid,

You’ll just feel really used.

The firm don’t believe in break times

Until over nine hours a day,

Then you can have fifteen minutes,

Uh – remind me why I stay!

Unless of course you quote the law,

Then what can she say?

Oh yes, of course, silly me,

They could deduct my pay!

Full length trousers, closed in shoes,

The uniform’s all black,

Apron and cap in this hot summer,

Humanity they lack!

Now to top it all she’s decided

To pay no overtime,

But to do this in retrospect

Seems to me a crime.

Instead we can have the time off,

But not when we would like to.

No matter how many hours owed

You can’t take a day in lieu.

Well, I thought that topped it all

Now I’m adding more,

Every day there’s something else

To piss us off for sure!

Now we’re only paid till 4 o’ clock

Instead of quarter past.

Snatched back from last month’s pay,

What next will she grasp?

I think now the time has come

To say enough’s enough.

We should all stand together

And tell her to get stuffed!

For the worse terms and conditions

This company should be liable,

If to survive they must exploit staff

Is the business viable?

Cynthia, I only work part time, thank goodness, but it involves 2 longish days. Believe it or not, it's all legal except that we should have been notified of the changes in advance, and of course the lack of breaks. Thanks for commenting. x

Stefan - What at my age? Ooh young man!! Nah, hubby just laughed, he's a pussy cat, it's me you have to watch! Lol. Don't actually see the boss often as she runs the business from home, which is why I've been going in a skirt and sandals and taking more short breaks. I shall get caught some day soon, I expect! Thanks for comment. xxx

Sounds too close to a full-time wife-housekeeper-stay-at-home mother with three small kids, the tyrant being 'necessity'. Good observations, Lynn. Not sure how legal they are.

Written last week, added to this week, feels like it's open ended!
