An island of silence

I feel nothing except the noise in my head

The unspoken questions

The soundbite words

But this is my day

Much like yesterday and the day before

As I walk through the streets

The park meeting uneasy smiles and hellos

Some blank looks as if the world had been switched off

And back out on to the street where

A woman padded out with too many coats is shouting

Swearing cursing the world

Wanting to blame someone everyone

Just anything

For this plague running through her head

Nineteen to the dozen

This fight for body mind and soul

A world on mute

Deaf dumb and blind to itself

Gagged and forlorn

I want to say I agree

I want to join her

But instead, I walk on being my own island

Lost to the world

And the world lost to me

Never considering what it maybe like to be thrust

Thanks to John Aviva and Holden for liking

Thank you to Keith and Stephen for commenting. It never ceases to amaze me how we all react in different ways to the ongoing situation. There are those who crave for the pubs. Good luck to them with that. But I think that all of our lives have somehow been touched and probably changed in some fashion and what was normal will never quite be normal again which isn't an entirely bad thing

Thanks to all again

Martin,
This poem is full of imagery and begs questions of us all. I share your feeling of being detached from the world about us. People seem to have withdrawn into their comfort zones and hide behind their self erected barriers. I share what many experience in that we are lost to the world and each other. What has brought this about I wonder? We seem disconnected in some strange way.

An excellent poem and thank you for it.
Keith
