There's a little town in Lancashire they call Accrington
The birthplace of a legend and a sportsman elite
He set records year on year as he ran like the wind
He pushed himself to the limit and as a competitor was hard to beat
A world record holder and a marathon man to boot
From national records to Olympic glory he brightly shone
For 52 years and 39 days without a break he hit the ground running
At the ripe old age of eighty two he is sadly gone
He goes by the name of Ron Hill and man he was born to run

Across the years and decades he was an inspiration to many
To young and old alike his achievements made them believe
In the early eighties I too caught the running bug
From humble beginnings I realized how much I could achieve
I became a marathon man and the world was my oyster
London, Dublin, Stockholm, New York to name but a few
I continue to pound the pavements and run for my life
Much respect to a hero and a great man I never knew
