My Old Friend
My Old Friend
Hello majestic wonder,
My old friend,
Where do you start
And where do you end?
What secrets do you hold?
And what lessons do you have for us all
Young
And old?
A mighty yet nurturing figure
Who grounds us through and through,
When I am fatigued and feeling stuck
I move my gaze upwards to your leaves
Wondering what you would tell me to do
Your branches
Sit high in the air
Yet hang down like a warm and embracing hug,
Humans aside, your importance remains, as you provide a home and shelter
For the birds, the beetles and the bugs
Oh, the things you have endured,
And seen
Yet your kindness and calmness remain
While on the side, you also keep the air clean!
When I think to myself ‘what does this all mean?’
And ‘how do I do it?’
Your existence alone, reminds me that it’s not actually important
And that I’ll find a way through it
Thank you, old friend
For being a strong figure to turn to
When I feel pain or run in to strife
And for giving us all hope
And the greatest gift of all...life
