Don’t forget that if you’re anywhere near Edinburgh during August that there are some outstanding acts from Write Out Loud members playing during the Fringe Festival.

If you’ve read last month’s ezine column you’ll already know about comedian H. Anthony Hildebrand’s show ‘Why is a Lettuce?’ at the Gilded Balloon Teviot-Wee Room, and about ‘Kitty Cointreau’s BraHaHa’ – a cabaret show with a difference at The Zoo Roxy (Loft) at The Roxy Art House, and also, for children, Jenny Wilcock’s show ‘Our Little Book of Garden Verse’ at the Lindisfarne Room at St. Cuthbert’s Parish Church (see ‘Ticket to Edinburgh’ – July ezine for details of shows).

And now we’ve found another act that we can highly recommend! If you missed Project Adorno’s show – ‘Top Ten of Popular Culture’ at Preston’s Tringe a few weeks ago, you can catch them again in Edinburgh.

Project Adorno are Write Out Loud’s Russell Thompson and Praveen Manghani, and are a double act employing voice, electronic sounds, a few props and occasional acoustic guitar. Subject matter, ranging from the surreal to the downright nonsensical, includes the smell of second-hand books, love affairs with Daleks and photocopiers, and poems about old computer games.

Their ‘Top Ten of Popular Culture’ is a show about lists & vital statistics; loosely based on the Government publication “Social Trends” this is a light-hearted look at popular culture from the last 30 years, addressing the issues that really matter. What were the top computer games of the 80s, which football manager is the greatest of all time who is the sexiest newsreader in Britain today?

What others have said about Project Adorno:

A stunning exercise in electronic beat poetry. Record Collector Magazine

A very weird, but enjoyable, hour of 80s grooves Three Weeks, Edinburgh Fringe

I’d be happy to sit through this show every week. Buxton Fringe

You can catch their 50 minute long show at The Vault (venue 29) at 11 Merchant Street, Edinburgh EH1 2QD from 17th to 22nd August at 2.25pm.
