Sadness
I have seen you sleep with bottled up tears
All those times you suffered in your masculinity
“Men don’t cry though” they said
Almost tested your suicide attempts when it was full.
Those times when all of this back then would be seen as weakness,
I have seen
You take insults like a champ, but none asked you whether “are you okay”?
Tear yourself in that stench drink.
I have seen you pity on yourself hatred lucky enough you didn’t take your advice,
“Who knows what?” They mumbled.
I have seen you love yourself for your mistakes and hated yourself for decisions, vice versa.
You didn’t cry, you bottled it up in the name of Strong.
I have seen you love walls they never cared to love you back.
You tried and failed to be strong how about you cry now.
Even the sun rests every noon, it will be strong again tomorrow.
Let those tears fall and you rise, hope the world sees you shine you deserve it.
Cry those tears let pain ooze through those eyes,
If you don’t cry, you may not see the road clear anymore.

Echoing Stephen and KJ Walker's comments here, Kelvin. Thank you for posting this. As you outlined, men are brought up being taught just to 'suck it up', which is totally unfair. It takes courage to be vulnerable. As a mental health nurse practitioner, I appreciate the stigma of men being seen as being 'less manly' through simply asking for the help that we all need at different times. Posting reflections like yours here, are a way to break down that stigma.
Keep writing and smiling.
Warm wishes,
Rasa
