Depression
She asked me
What is it like?
I replied
You know
Like when you cant swim and you start to drown
So you're drowning right?
But its like everyone else around you can breathe
They seem to be floating on their back with ease
Everyone else has their head above water
Keeping afloat
And even some of the fortunate ones
They have their own boat
Not even touching the water
But see
You're still drowning
You want to beg and plead for help
But instead you just ask for a little assistance
For someone to throw you a life raft
But nah maybe you can learn to swim
With just a little persistence
Because everyone has their own problems
You gotta help yourself, right?
I mean you've already lost a majority of your breath
But fuck it you still got a little bit left
Enough to bring your head above water and
Miraculously learn the back stroke
Swim right past that boat
While flipping those privileged folks off with the bird
They're just watching the show
They didn't try to help you any how
You just keep it moving because you already know
People are naturally foul
Silly for thinking anything different
Could of possibly occurred
Silly for you to hope that those folks would have
Passed the point of being perturbed
Like ain’t nobody show this little girl how to swim?
You're wishing that they'd go off the whim of
Oh! She needs help!
And jump right into the crippling water that has you paralyzed
Maybe you should've gasped for air a little bit harder
But No, fuck that!
Wasting something you don't even have
For them to realize a little too late that it matters too
Your breath, Your life
You're not biting the bullet for strangers to
Weep over your grave
When in life to them
You wasn't even worth their time to save
Give me my flowers while I am alive
SAVE ME SOS
You yelling it with your last breathe
SAVE ME SOS
You look past that boat and on to the sky
SAVE ME SOS
You are saved my child
Speaks back a voice so warm and comforting
You forget you needed air to breathe
Because she breathed into you
And she put all of your fears to ease
All the questions
Where have you been?
Why must I struggle?
What is it like to be able to breathe?
What is it like to be able to swim?
All those questions dissipate
As your new journey is to anticipate
The sweet feeling of release
From the murky pond that has held you captive
For all these years
The kiss of Gaia removes your soul
From it's tired voyage
Your only peace
Is your final peace
As you're laid to rest
This is what it is like my dear
To be depressed
