Beautiful Things
Beautiful things
It takes a second to pause
To be able to realise and see
That no matter where I am
There are beautiful things around me
A dragonfly sits in my crepe myrtle tree
Practically masked
Wings that mimic crystal
A torso that resembles coloured glass
For a second, I don’t know that he is there
Appearing as though he is both flying and sleeping
In mid air
I find a quiet bench to meditate on in a shopping mall
In the middle of a storm
A man invites me to rest in his shop
Not with any other agenda
Than to kindly provide shelter
That is comfortable and warm
I look up at the trees
That are hundreds of years old
They stand with quiet pride and grace
Their presence alone— allows magic to unfold
A friend helps another
When they know their mate is in pain
Despite their own struggles and hardship
Their journeys are different —yet are one in the same
A dog wags its tail
And rolls around in the dirt
Not worrying about ego or status
Or whether or not they will fail or get hurt
The sun sets across the ocean
The waves sparkle as the tides goes back out the other way
A visual metaphor
That although things change— and are uncertain
We are grateful to have experienced today
These beautiful things around us
Are ever present and near
Just take a breath and look around
And remember you are here
