The Humble Bumblebee
I found myself
At the river’s edge
How I got there
I cannot say
Perhaps it was because
I had nowhere else
To go
And, I had lost
My way
But it was in this place
That I made my pledge
Never again
Will I walk that road
Or that spiteful
dusty lane
I am afraid my beating heart
Has been fully dredged
Only silt doth remain
I am nothing
But a drifter
A magical, devious
Shape shifter
I sit amognst
Nature’s spree
And listen intently
As the wind whispers
Her secrets to me
The brambles
Were too sharp
Treacherous thorns
Unleashed their scorn
Making me wish
I had never been born
It was a road
Where no rose grows
There were only
Blades that wound
And maim
Hatred will blame
Even the purest
Of souls
And the beasts
Will take their toll
The river
Is where I belong
The water flow
Soothes my soul
Joy is found
In the dragonflies dance
Whilst the air soothes
With lullaby's, gifted
By beguiling bird song
Where the butterflies
Romance and flutterby
In a trance
And no-one feels
The need to make
A stance
The rain washes
O’er my face
And the sunlight
Offers her warm
Embrace
And I dance
Oh, how I dance
So freely
And joyously
I am but
A bumblebee!
I am so happy
To be me
Feeding from the flowers
And spring blossom
From the trees
Joy knows nothing
Like a bird freed
Nor the humble
Bumblebee.
