Falling

We
       fell
             together that night
Under golden shards of starlight
Skin glistening with sweat & tears
A caress to hide our deepest fears
We trickled down like teardrops
Made mercury under a brightening moon
Lips Softly touching
Hearts merging
The anticipation
of the life we could have
        If not for life itself
There was one last look
Through glistening pools of sorrow
Serendipity, you whispered
And we fell apart
The wind scattering us
to the harshness of time & reality

And here I stand again
All these years later
Old & frail
Skin so pale
Hoping, waiting, anticipating
But there's nothing but
the same bitter wind
And an emptiness

of lost and lonely souls

Absolutely Stephen. I was definitely going to be an astronaut, but life got in the way! 😆. And Thank you for commenting appreciated as always 🌈

Very impressive, Stephen.

'The anticipation of the life we could have , If not for life itself' rings very true. 'Life' gets in the way of many dreams and desires. I guess it was ever thus.
