Compass

If we, as a society

rid ourselves of the natural consequences

of our own actions,

there will then no longer be any ground

for us to equally stand on.

What would become of our lives?

when we put on that headset,

and enter a world

where our limitless freedom

comes at the expense

of everyone around us.

When 100% freedom for me,

means 0% freedom for anyone else.

Our only limit, our imagination,

which only becomes more twisted.

As we sit alone,

our only comfort,

our imaginative experiences,

no matter how evil or vile.

no matter how invasive or disturbing.

no matter how anyone else feels.

no matter what the consequences should be.

Our future,

much more depressing than the grown man, gaming basement dweller.

much more judgmental than the worst of our grade school peers.

much more lonely than instagram already makes us feel.

much more violent and impulsive than the worst modern horror stories we have to draw from.

A permanent harm to family,

to personal boundaries,

to the pursuit of meaning.

An honest to god,

Monster.
