Summer Rain
Old friend, arriving like the summer rain
A soothing caress filled with tenderness
Light, smooth words to ease my pain
Old friend, it’s so nice to be with you again
You feel like the rain kissing the grass
Breathing new life into this wretched soul
Broken and breathless
Dear friend, your presence is priceless
With you I grow, I will not fold
You are the summer rain
Your heart is my rainbow
Your love arches over me
You bathe me in hues of violet and gold
I inhale new, rain drenched air
My body unfurls, my mind is set free
Your friendship is precious
Vital to me
It quenches the thirst and allows me to bloom
All that you are, I hope to be
The raindrop on the petal
The roots in the earth
The pull of the moon
You are the summer rain
Arriving when most needed
When you have gone
The air feels lighter and I can breathe
I know you cannot always be there
I understand you have to leave
Know that I am here for you
Just as you are there for me
We can both breathe much lighter
In the knowledge that you and I
Are always we.
