The cadence conceals
the reticence of Pericles,
as he prepares for
his century of bliss,
to be corrugated nonetheless
by the occult, and
the interplay between
the spur to prosperity,
with an eye to posterity,
and some foul play
on a sacrificial tripod,
meant to appease
the nimbus that
brightens Olympus...
