La Luna (unfinished)

Had she been born under the sun

Perhaps she would have dazzled

Maybe her light would never

Have dimmed

The sky so blue

Beholden to Theia’s Light

A vast expanse filled only

With gratitude

That’s what she should have been

When the stars aligned

They had other plans

She would defy all gravity

Such majesty would be bestowed

Upon her

Her birthright was to be the moon

Mere mortals would hold her in awe

They named her

Serene

She would inure them

To the light

Her allure seduced

La luna

The moon flower

Had no choice but to bloom

In her presence

She would not sear

Burning and fierce

Simply to hide her shame

In some watery essence

No, she would rise!

The moonlight would

Be her slave

She would pull tides

Her strength would

Bring light into the

Night sky

She was born to be soft

Gentle and kind

A caress for the weary

A hug for the blind.

The phases of the moon, the movement of the tides, the menstrual cycle. A concurrence or a coincidence? Lunacy used to be associated with the moon, menstruation and hysteria. Certainly, such concepts seem to coalesce around the goddess Sati, Hindu goddess of sex, also known as the “menstruating goddess.” In Greek mythology Selene is the goddess and the personification of the Moon. She is also known as Mene! (Also unfinished!)

Yes, Clare. I often feel that I have just missed what I was really aiming for.. I suppose we should all be slightly dissatisfied with what we have written.

Thanks Stephen G, for your kind comment. Do you ever have that feeling'/frustration, of knowing there is something just within your peripheral vision if only you could touch it? That's how I feel about this piece!
Thanks to everyone that took the time to click the like button. Much appreciated, as always. 😌

The last verse seems to finish it off well, Clare. Beautiful.
