MOVING ON

I am a women well past my prime,

born to obey,

to acquiesce,

to follow always were I am led

-  -  -  - my Mother's daughter.

As I watch my younger Sisters rise

I hide the envy in my eyes

and wish them well,

I'm happy for them.

Now in reflective mood

I recognize the age-old strategy,

depress the spirit, crush the child,

produce a servant meek and mild,

loyalty without question.

And, though not applicable today,

love honour and obey,

every woman's wedding pledge.

(Ownership springs to mind.)

Now my translucent, fragile skin,

is worn thin with my advancing age,

and my buried ego gasps for breath

as I push away each mocking phrase

and bored contemptuous gaze.

In my shoes - - - - - you would bear my name - - -

                              - - - - - - - - and my forced sense of place.

                                     - - - - - - - -   But my spirit is rekindled

                                                          - - - - - - - -  And - -  S0 - - I - - Fight.

FOR ADMIN

I sow the seeds - - - - -

but my flowers are slow growing -

advice, please.

(It can take a day or so

before my flower appears.)

It put me in mind of Cat Stevens’s “Hard Headed Woman”, Flyntland. I have been fortunate to be surrounded by strong women.
I really like this.

A poem of sincerity and feeling, Flyntland.

Thank you K.Lynn for your much-appreciated comment - times have changed now and it is good to see -but for those of us who were raised to 'know our place' life has been a struggle. Thank you to WOL. for enabling me to have a voice.

I like your poem very much, Flyntland. Much to think about here.
