THE BARDS SONG

Now take heed and understand

we are the Dreamers of this land,

we're not blessed with winning ways

and may look like waifs and strays,

but remember this - we have a place,

a part to play - a path to trace.

When you speak of us be kind

for we have the power to soothe your mind.

The songs we write that bring you joy,

and the pretty phrases we employ

to calm your fearful troubled days,

were born in the suns first infant rays.

From a single source our varying talents rise

we see your world through very different eyes.

We are aware of subtle change

and know you think of us as strange,

but we sense truth behind disguise,

when lips prove false - we read veiled eyes.

We are the Dreamers of our race

born to live in solitude and space,

in ancient times when dreamings had their birth

they were recounted and given greater worth.

Those times - long past - can't be repeated

                        but we dream on -

                                               unbowed

                                                                   and undefeated.

A beautifully composed, meaningful poem, Flyntland! I loved the line "when lips prove false - we read veiled eyes." 🌷
