True Christmas

entry picture

Everything Sparkles
Everything glitters
Shoppers all around
Jingles and sounds
There is much to see, smell and taste..
Everyone however seems to be in a haste...
There are frowns and wrinkles as families step out with bags and bills
Bickers too and endless lists...
I walk around searching for a smile, hand in hand with no bags in sight...
For couples, singles, friends and partners
Who have stepped out just see the beautiful wonders...
Laugh and giggle and just to mingle...
It's hard to see the true self in all this glitter and shine...
Frowns and wrinkles...on buying to meet the norms...
And then I notice a lady in red...
Ringing the reindeer bell...
Asking for what one can spare...
For those not fortunate enough and no one to care...
The buzz around her passes by...
Ignoring her bright smile and kind eyes...
I just wonder...
What festivities stand for anymore...
Labels and tags to brag and boast...
Countless bills and posts...
I still look for that glitter and sparkle...
But for me it still is in the eyes and smiles
Naive of me maybe
Hoping always for it to be...

"for me it still is in the eyes and smiles",

I try to smile at those I normally wouldn't- eg. the stranger new to our shores on the bus. I've experienced the warmth of a smile freely given.
