A lovely poem written by my niece (JB), mother of 3 little children. (Sharing with her permission.)
"there’s a future I remember
where my children have acres to roam
amongst fruit trees they know by name
we’ll plant herbs & flowers at their roots
a deep bow of reverence
a cyclical exchange
the pollinators will dance & buzz
& we’ll soak in their frequencies
vibrate higher than we knew we could
there’s a spring we’ll fill jugs from
such life giving energy
water holds memory
there’s a stream where we’ll walk
bare feet on the cool stones
wash away all worries
follow the path, go with the flow
we’ll jump fully in the pond, revitalized…replenished
we’ll paddle with the geese
& fly with the herons
& learn all their songs by heart
we’ll pick berries into woven baskets
make jam with stained fingers,
smear it on homemade rosemary sourdough, dipped in hot cocoa
we’ll bask in the cinnamon aroma…
we’ll grill radishes in olive oil; soak pears in honey; pickle okra & make goat cheese
we’ll tend to the animals,
love the land
our keyhole gardens will be overflowing
we’ll lick the abundance, fill our bellies
share our excess
we’ll mold clay with our hands
feel our connection to the earth,
to the divine-deep in our bones,
deep in our souls
we’ll paint our prayers
we’ll lay down in a field of violets,
watch the clouds & the stars drift by
we’ll tell stories around a flickering fire
we’ll twirl under every rainbow
living the life of our dreams
& we’ll wonder how we got it so good
to move with the rhythm of the earth & sky
to reclaim our rooted liberation
& have a home to nurture
to be
nurtured in return
.
but so many “what if’s” circle me
will it ever be ours?
I remember it all so viscerally
but what if the world falls apart?
perhaps the collapse
will awaken
the return to the Sacred
perhaps time isn’t linear
perhaps it is
already
ours"
