What if and whatnot

What if the leaves weren't yellow nor green

And mountains were all shades of baby pink

Making it better having variety of colours

Would it be we wanted them as it is without making any changes

What if the past was a deletable work

Just turning back few pages and pictures to omit

Or may be even in present we could make changes as and when we could

Would that make any difference to how things are or would actually be

What if we could choose everything and anything we wanted

If it wasn't destined from the beginning how and where we would be

Or how we could exchange what wasn't working correctly

Would life be any better than what it is that we are living

What if we could traverse the universe in milliseconds

And could touch any star or walk on any planet

Changing the orbits and picking up what we liked in heaven

Would that make our life any better or easier than it is

What if we could hold the water like wood

Or burn the fire leaving behind ashes of crystal look

And hold the blowing winds and talk them through

Would it make any difference to our environment than what we have already ruined

What if we could enter the cinema screens

Change the colour and songs to what's appealing

Or could pull out the characters and place our favourite ones in

Would it make the movie any longer than how soon it ends

What if we could let the fishes out of water and play with them

Let the whales and sharks be the ones to die saving our land

Or talking to the birds to get all the information as and when we could

Would it make nations any better and would wars end soon

What if I was you and you were me or just anyone could be anybody

Or we could morph ourselves as we do the photographs

And just without going under knife and scissors change whatever we could

Would that make us more humanely and benefit humanity

A thoughtfully crafted poem which provokes some considerable thought in the reader. It challenges us and in the end teaches us to accept what there is and what we have. Someone once said to me, "What if there were no clouds and no trees". I for one could not imagine such a landscape. We need to learn and appreciate what we have because behind the veneer of life lies one of the secrets of creation.
Thank you for a splendid poem

You ask some very important question there Ghazala.
Thank you.

I suppose my response might be in this prayer:

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference."
