Brookside Avenue...Knotty Ash

entry picture

I lived there, I loved there, and I miss there.

I lived in Brookside Avenue, in the Square.

The big corner house, Vera knows the one.

Now I look back, where’s all that time gone?

The busy roundabout, was not far from me.

Off to the nearby Burger King for the kid’s tea!

My garden backed onto the school playground.

I heard the children playing, I loved that sound!

Living in Knotty Ash, was a dream come true.

Watching with pride as my young daughters grew.

Doddy, lived close to me, I couldn’t ask for more.

We often exchanged ‘Hello’s’ by his front door!

I met Doddy while shopping in Sainsbury’s’ too.

He made my girls laugh, while in the queue.

Typical Doddy… ‘Happiness’ forever to spread.

The greatest entertainer ever, it has to be said!

I took my dog for walks on the old railway track.

Easily the happiest days ever, when looking back.

In lovely Springfield Park, I took my 2 girls to play.

I loved Knotty Ash, I never wanted to move away.

But times, they change, it can deliver you blows.

What does the future hold, nobody really knows.

I passed Brookside Avenue today, a teardrop fell.

It’s no longer my home, but I’m still under its spell.

A lovely poem, Mike. You convey so beautifully your love for the place and the happy times that you all had there. And Ken Dodd living just around the corner! Life moves on, as you say, but you will always have these memories, sad though the parting has been.
