New Coaster
I was part of a campaign to save an historic rollercoaster at Southport Funfair (Pleasureland).
The coaster was one of only a few left in the world, it was called Southport Cyclone. Built in 1937 it brought joy and laughter to many. We were just a few months from saving her, but the Blackpool pleasure beach wanted it destroyed. We tried many many techniques to stop the destruction. I even chained myself to the top of it. Details of the protest and the Granada TV television coverage of my protest can be seen on my youtube account, or search for Southport Cyclone on You tube / Granada TV.
The picture here shows the NEW rollercoaster, a MINI victory as the park was saved at the last minute by a guy called Norman Wilson. He decided to rebuild a coaster so all was not lost and new rides are planned for next year, so the fair was saved!
Pictures of the old coaster can be found on my site www.southportcyclone.com , which together with a friend have been running for a year or so.
