Grass will be greener on all sides
When we gaze out of the window, our eyes they do wander,
Seeking beauty in distant horizons, far beyond this border.
But what of where we stand? We give it little thought,
For our vision is fixed on what's yet to be brought.
It seems that we forget the ground beneath our feet,
The world around us, so close, yet so incomplete.
We must tend to our surroundings, make them bright and fair,
So that when we look ahead, we see only peace and care.
We build a world not only for ourselves, but also for them,
For it is only in their happiness that our own dreams begin.
We must strive to make the grass greener on the other side,
Not out of envy, but out of love and pride.
Imagine a world where each one works to make their sight more beautiful,
Crafting a canvas of harmony, by working for each other,
Making the world a better place to live and look at,
A world where the grass is always greener, because we've made it that way.
Our neighborhoods should be greener still, with flowers blooming everywhere,
A testament to the love and care that we do share.
For when we work only on ourselves, we see but a small part,
While the world around us remains a cold and empty heart.
So let us make the world a better place, for each and every one,
By working together, side by side, with love and joyful song.
When we sit in our gardens, admiring the beauty around,
We'll find that the grass was greener, because we made it so profound.
Let us make this world our garden, where everyone may find their peace,
Where every heart may bloom, and every soul may cease to weep.
Let us work together, hand in hand, to create a world so fair,
Where the grass will be greener on all sides, and happiness will fill the air.
Explanation of the above poem
When we look out of the window, our minds are often drawn to the distant horizons and the promise of adventure that lies beyond. It's only natural to be captivated by the beauty of the world around us, to seek out new experiences and to strive for personal growth. But in our pursuit of these goals, it's important not to overlook the beauty and potential that exists right in front of us, in our own communities and in the people we share our lives with.
The grass may look greener on the other side, but by cultivating our own surroundings and investing in the well-being of those closest to us, we can create a vibrant and fulfilling life that is truly beautiful in its own right. Imagine a world where everyone took the time to tend to their own gardens, to nurture their relationships and to contribute positively to the lives of those around them. The result would be a stunning mosaic of individual efforts, each adding to the overall beauty and harmony of the world.
Of course, this doesn't mean that we should abandon our own dreams and aspirations. Quite the opposite, in fact. By creating a strong foundation of love, support and mutual respect at home, we are better able to pursue our passions and achieve our goals with confidence and clarity. It's like building a strong root system for a tree; the deeper and more robust our connections to our community, the taller and more resilient our personal achievements can be.
So let's make an effort to make our neighborhoods greener and more beautiful, to cultivate the grass beneath our feet and to tend to the relationships that sustain us. By doing so, we'll create a world where everyone can look out of their windows and see a reflection of their own hard work and dedication, a world where the grass is always greener because we've all taken the time to make it that way. And when we sit in our gardens, admiring the fruits of our labors, we'll know that we've helped to create a better world not just for ourselves, but for everyone who shares in it.
However, it's important to remember that the world around us doesn't exist solely for our viewing pleasure; it's a shared space, and our actions have an impact on those around us. By working together to make our neighborhoods greener and more beautiful, we create an environment where everyone can thrive and take pride in their surroundings.
Imagine a world where each person takes the time to tend to the patch of earth they call home. They plant trees, tend gardens, and pick up litter. They paint over graffiti and repair broken fences. They smile at their neighbors and exchange friendly words as they go about their daily routines. The cumulative effect of these small acts of kindness and civic-mindedness is nothing short of transformative.
As we work to make our own piece of the world more beautiful, we inadvertently contribute to the greater good. When we look out of our windows, we see not only the efforts we've put forth, but also the ripples of those efforts spreading outward. The grass grows greener not only in our own yards, but also in our neighbors', and the beauty we once sought only in the distant horizon begins to find its way back to us.
In the end, it's not enough to simply focus on our own individual needs and wants. We must remember that we are part of a larger community, and that our actions have consequences for those around us. By working together to create a world that is not only pleasant for ourselves, but also for those who will come after us, we ensure that the view out of our windows will always be one of beauty, harmony, and peace.
So let us roll up our sleeves and get to work, each of us doing our part to make the world a little brighter. Let us strive to create a world where the grass is greener not just on the other side, but on all sides. Together, we can make our neighborhoods into gardens of Eden, where beauty and peace abound, and everyone can take pride in their role in creating something truly magnificent.

I loved reading every word of this, Ghazala, both the poem and the explanatory prose. Inspiring-- rolling up our sleeves and reaching out towards community, sharing, creating, fostering harmony as much as we can. Profoundly beautiful.
