IN A WORLD GONE MAD...

...always stay enlightened, as you hope you are,

and disavow those darker yous. You are far

and away the better man for it. Your name

says pride, so safely put away your shame

and revel in revealing. Let that pride

radiate through you and outside

of yourself, beyond your skin; let it fly

free, let its colour be the rainbow in your sky,

let its light enhance your sight, let it be

your snowcapped mountains high, your deep blue foamy sea,

your deserts' lush oases; let it speak,

untether it so it can run wild, to seek

satori on those wider shores

beyond horizons far; let its scores

resonate, symphonic in scale and scope,

let it dare to dream, to care enough to hope,

to hold harmony in the palm of its hand,

to be at once conductor and band,

player and played, the instrument

upon which your fantasies are spent;

and keep your faith: there is more to you

than you know, than you can know; do

all you are able to do, and recognise

that your ability is without size

or shape, your ambition without limitation;

eat voraciously at each invitation,

each visitation of possibility,

everything as choice dictates, as viability

allows, as visibility permits;

say it: you are a man, born free, who submits

to nothing, who admits to being

himself first, and in freeing

himself from his past, nobody's slave;

in love, boundless; you're the breaking wave,

the cresting foam upon life's shore

and who could ask for anything more

than this? You are boldly you: be proud

of that. Sing your song, sing it loud

and long, sing it joyous, from the rooftops;

sing it, assured your music never stops.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words, Keith. After so long in the shadows, coming out into the light is a nerve-wracking experience. I have been my only audience for years. It's time these poems got some fresh air.

Martin,
This poem carried me along in quick time as I was devouring line after line. The poem is truly excellent. The last four lines are a wonderful exhoration which I fully endorse.
Thank you for this,
Keith
