80 years on , a milestone anniversary
The tide of allied hope our brave soldiers did take,
Quite simply the future of our world was at stake.
The misssion for freedom was breathtaking in scale,
Overwhelming in complexity as tbe brave set sail.
How did the brave survive and cope?
The legacy of D Day was one of hope.
On June the 6th 1944,160,000 young men landed under enemy fire,
On the beaches of Normandy with a burning desire.
The desire to succeed in their hearts did burn,
On a perilous mission, some never to return !!
80 years on ,it is our duty to honour their achievements,
Their outstanding gallantry and their unfortunate bereavements .
We celebrate D Day with all it's drama and surprises,
Our immense gratitude to our brave soldiers constantly rises.
D Day changed the course of World war 2,
We cherish and honour those who served that day and got us through.
