A thousand faces

These eyes now laid on natures’ wings
have seen the sum of hateful things,
enough that English Winter Skies
as Pale as death cannot disguise

the salty sorrow in a tear,
intrusive nightmares ever near.
An empty voice shocked free from words
which when it speaks is never heard.

Yet by the River from the hide
I saw a bird and almost cried,
as through its feathered curtain shone
a thousand faces dead and gone.

Thanks Stephen,

Although this piece was written a few years ago it still resonates.

The memories such happenings stir in me remain dormant until triggered by unexpected moments, I would liken the experience to an overwhelming cocktail of emotional Joy and Sadness in a single shot.

I'm sure most people experience such moments when deeply buried memories break through into their conscious surroundings.

Thanks again,

David

An extraordinarily beautiful and moving poem, David. Superbly written.

Nature's great beauty counters humanities frequent ugliness, this is something I have taken comfort in for a long time now.

I know I am damaged in part, but also in part healed.

The above poem is a moment that I experienced which tore me down to my boot laces...there are frequently such moments of which I am glad.

Thank you for your comment, and for the likes Helene and Tom.

Isn't it amazing when and how the mind chooses to reveal certain things. Very thought provoking, David
