Something to shout about! Quiet Compere Sarah L Dixon looks back at 90s indie music days

entry picture

Poet Sarah L Dixon – aka The Quiet Compere – has published a new book of poetry that confesses her passion for the 90s indie music scene. A Bit Like Falling in Love “takes you dancing in the kitchen, making mosh pit friends, meeting musicians in dreams and life”.

It’s clearly a very personal collection, but persuasively transmits her enthusiasm and love for her subject, and how much it has meant to her, in an informative and endearing way. With titles such as ‘They say you should never meet your idols’, ‘Dancing in your houses’, ‘Wildness in me’, and ‘My body as an ageing indie mosh pit’, you can maybe get the idea.

For the cover Sarah commissioned Mark Reynolds, who is well-known on the 90s indie scene for his artwork. Most recently he has worked with.Jim Bob, Placebo, and Pearl Jam.

She will be launching her collection at Northern Sole, Slaithwaite in West Yorkshire on 10 October at 7pm, with guests Kieron Lee Higgins and Faye Marshall.

As The Quiet Compere, Sarah has hosted more than 40 live events each featuring 10 poets with 10-minutes slots around the country, and at least 10 online events, some with Arts Council funding.
