'Over Here...Over Here'!! (A World of Innocence)

I had to escape from all the events of late.

The riots, the protests, the anger and hate.

So dismayed by all the terrible news to face.

Another world I sought, some childlike place.

A world that’s seen through children’s eyes.

A world of fun and laughter and sunny skies.

So today, my 2 Granddaughters I went to see.

From their window, they loudly laughed at me!

I pretended I was lost…I wandered to and fro.

I acted like I didn’t know which direction to go.

Was it left or right, I couldn’t make up my mind.

I acted confused as their house I couldn’t find!

‘Over here…over here’!! I could hear them say.

Laughing and screaming from the window bay!

Into their little innocent world, I now felt a part.

That’s why I love Alba and Nola with all my heart!

Today, in the colour teal, Alba painted my nails.

I sang daft songs and I made up some silly tales.

Like magic, treats appeared from an empty hat.

6 Freddo’s and milky bar buttons, things like that!

Alba gleefully wore 2 glittery Tiara’s on her head.

‘Alba… you look like a gorgeous Princess’ I said.

Nola happily build a house from magnetic blocks.

Alba showed me her wardrobe full of girly frocks!

From today’s visit, I don’t have much more to tell.

Because Alba had chicken pox and felt a bit unwell.

Get well soon Alba, and thank you both for today.

In your lovely innocent world, I would love to stay!

A poem that transports the reader into a better world. So appreciated, so well written. Thank you, Mike! And the picture of the 2 little girls you have on your profile page makes me smile every time I see it.

This really moved me, Mike. Such beautiful innocence, why can't we all stay there?

Beautiful poem, Mike. We were in Newcastle today with our three grandchildren, the day after people turned out in the Toon in large numbers to say No to the far right, as they did all over the country. Our eldest grandchild is called Alba, too.

Thanks Mike.
For various personal reasons, your poem has touched my heart.
Many of us are badly in need of a bit of silliness and innocence.
Each day I see people who are the targets of the hate mobs...I saw a young man on the bus yesterday with a pram full of "new baby" paraphanalia...and I had a heavy heart as I wondered about what kind of a world his child would grow up in.💖💖💖
