The Aftermath
What can we learn from the aftermath of disaster
As we hunt through the wreckage for survivors
But find only bodies to bury
Sobered by the cruelness of life
The cruelness of self
For this was no act of god
We caused this
I caused this
With blood on my hands I submit to the reckoning
I led us down a path of no return
For I could see the crash site ahead
But I was asleep at the wheel
As lusts devils whispered in my ear
As loves demons lulled me with hypnosis
I strayed deeper into sin
And now I must pay the price
I bartered for years
Negotiating a way to keep it all
Until it was too heavy to hold
Until all of my soul was sold
Shattered fragments surround me
You are the splinter inside me
A constant reminder
A life disenchanted
What we can learn from the aftermath is that
The sun will rise again
Even after the darkest of days
A safe port will appear again
Even after the harshest of storms
With no bad blood
I wait patiently for this
My soul to be reclaimed
With a past unashamed
