Time on a Train
From the window of my little roomette
I watch the landscape scrolling past
It is as varied as the people aboard
Each a different story, a different mindset
Scenery has been staged, all riders in the cast
The unwritten script requiring a certain accord
The anatomy of this production is never static
Characters continue to enter and leave the stage
Dynamics altered from coach to coach
In the observation car I observe each one’s shtick
Watch the eyes and body language as they engage
Register subtle changes as new characters approach
There on the train are the old and the young
The loud and brass to the timid and restrained
Varied social classes and a mixture of cultures
Provide lines of script voiced in various tongue
Providing a certain sense of being entertained
There are melodramas, comedy and adventures
A train ride of theatrics, stories within a story
Applications of diversity, a study in psychology
Characters worthy of quiet observation
The nuances of life’s performances to see
Upon a train as it rumbles on, a new play has begun

Tim this reminded me of the Arlo Guthrie song 'The City of New Orleans'. I was humming it reading your piece. Excellent!
