The resurrection of the dead

Dukkha-taṇhā
Suffering and desire
Twist unbidden tears
Clear outer me:
Pumping hearts, shaking hands,
Human life conducted in the dark:
The hidden fears
The inconsolable grief
Many fear-filled years.
The overwhelming craving for permanence
For the enduring stillness
Of the Sea of Galilee.
But, instead, let’s walk
To the tomb of Maimonides:
Oh! Why do the wicked prosper?
Why oh! why do the righteous die?
Answer came there none –
Except, perhaps, in the Song of Solomon –
For the season of singing has come.
Gehinnom, that citadel of souls,
Shines behind the sun,
And we do not know of the world to come.
Maimonides’ Guide for the Perplexed
Taught us not to ask for whom the bell tolls
It tolls for thee…

Maimonides: born and lived in Cordoba.
An amazing place, an archtectural and cultural wonder, as are many parts of Spain. Hard to believe these days, that Christian, Jew and Muslim once co-operated in peace for many years.
