No Requiem

Ah!

The simple sorrow

Of no more tomorrows

A gasp of air

No longer there

Drifting down life's breezy alleys

To settle in some distant valley;

A nomad memory roaming free

Returning only occasionally

To minds who thought all was calm

Under masquerades of smiles & charm

Do we only truly live in youth?

‘Til conformity becomes our truth?

Tethered to life, we shackle ourselves

A shallow breath from our own death knell

Is it not easier to be free

Of everything they want me to be?

It is!  It is! I hear some say

But, they no-longer see the light of day

The sunrise, the sunset, the twinkling stars

Got lost to grief & mental scars

Open wounds hidden in plain sight

Fester and bleed to eternal night

This sorrow of heart & laden mind

Veil the path you need to find

But with every small step, fog abates

You may stumble & fall, but life rotates

You'll find yourself when the path blows clear

“Look!” you'll say, “I'm still here!”

And when age defines you

By the ties that bind you

You'll see your old hand, held by another

And realise life became your brother

And when it's, truly, time to go

You'll smile with a simple truth you know:

That love is the core of all we become

We are the moon & the stars & the eternal sun.
