Desperate times
I see a man with head in hands standing at the community fridge,
Sad and angry that now this is the only way to feed the kids,
He feels cheated, chastised, deflated and ultimately defeated,
He Remains seated.
The redundancy the sackings came so fast no one knew what was happening,
It all felt like a personal attack on him,
Feelings of depression coupled with a lack of enthusiasm,
Left no answers just a lot more questioning.
How deep can he sink with no sense of buoyancy?
Busted by bureaucracy when once he was a prodigy,
I guess 15 years of service wasn't considered loyalty,
Has he failed? In the eyes of most, most probably.
Desperate times call for more than single measures,
He tried lovingly hard to stay strong for his best kept treasures,
But at the realisation that life's no joke,
At 40 years old he ended it all at the end of a rope.

Arrianna,
Thanks for your comments others have mentioned the same. Although I didn't write this with veterans in mind I'm glad it speaks to you that way.
One of my entries "empty ground" is about war veterans and the similarities in there fate after serving big global players.
🙏
