My Body Is A Heckler (with audio recording)

I’m going about my day

NEWSFLASH!

Unexpectedly

like a bolt out of the blue

my body interrupts me

46 years of chronic pain sciatica

has taught me the disruptive nature

of the body’s physicality

Visceral newsflashes

Corporeal shoots of pain

Physiotherapy and Amitriptyline only temporarily numbs

My body heckles me

Poetic, lyrical, unexpected, transformative interruptions

but fleshy, visceral, messy, painful

Tingling tingling tingling

down my spine

I must sit down at the moment

my body strikes wherever I am

Standing in queues is the worst

My idea of hell is the queue in the bank or post office

The body strikes and I must sit down in my place in the queue

however cold the floor or dirty the ground

You can look at me and make fun of me all you like

I’ve survived 46 years of pain already.
