Sugar is sweet
Sugar Dumpling dozed as usual in the dark corner of the pantry, where some dried spaghetti acted as a gantry to a world of food.
He often wondered how and why he got his name and who could actually be to blame
for the fact he'd never been eaten.
However, SD wouldn't be beaten and asked himself was it his wrapping?, his long sell by date? or was it simply too late to end his days in the black abyss of someone's tummy
was it because he wasn't yummy?
According to Dr Foods Sweet Tooth Almanac, a dumpling was a lump of suet but our SD simply never knew it.
The lumps were steamed in pan or pot and usually served piping hot, with stew or broth
or a basin covered in cloth.
Daubed in gravy or sauce were such things
of course but covered in sugar?
Not on the life of your brother!
So here was Sugar D at sixes and sevens you see, because as well as all this, he had no foodie friends or edible items to talk to, not even a safe place in the pantry to walk to.
But wait he heard the sound of fumbling, a human hand sent him spinning and tumbling, picked him up and unwrapped this dumpling.
After all these years as he'd started to weaken Was this the day he was going to be eaten?
At the final second though a change of plan
at the speed of sound
Sugar Dumpling was tossed from mouth
to ground. Calmly he lay there hoping he eventually would be found.
Although covered in dust, leaves and grass he mustered up some strength at last, but at that point something ran quickly past, trampled him and walked on by, now Sugar Dumpling....
is in that great food pantry in the sky.
