ONE CAN DREAM (ON A GOOD DAY)
My whole blue life i never knew
what now as plain as daylight glares -
that i'd not spent my time as true
as others had. Caught unawares
in fact, born to these years, whose eye
was blindest to such subtle things,
and with knowledge in scant supply
I felt a beggar amongst kings,
a leper in a hero's age
misunderstood, and worse, abased,
arraigned inside my brainpan's cage
and from society effaced.
But now i've realised my worth
and know this empire's mine, at last,
I'll make a bauble of the earth
and have it in my sceptre cast.
Oh yes! That's what my dreams reveal
when deep in sleep; sat on my throne
I can be king of all that's real
and swear, "i'll make this world my own!
No more will i said leper be,
unworthy of respect; no more,
no more! At last i can run free:
to hell with all i've known before!
I am divergent, proudly so
and life will have to deal with it
because i mean to let life know
that i'm in charge now, sooo...tough shit!"
