They Also Serve

Though there are wars we cannot see

their wounds and scars leave history

some is carved in marbled stone

the names of those beloved and known...

and some is seared to flesh and mind

unknown to those we left behind

who waved us off and served us well

and in their waiting shared our hell

Thank you Tom,

It seems I have broken a promise. It was my intention to write only one remembrance poem this year, I wrote and posted " Poplars in November" on 24 Nov this year:

In the time between then and today I could not supress historical thoughts of how my own experiences caused the suffering of those closest to me.

On remembrance day I find myself thinking of the surviving living as much as the dead. I also contemplate how we will undoubtedly repeat our mistakes, this unfortunate reality makes a lie of much of remembrance.

I have the upmost respect for all who have sacrificed and all who truly remember. I have no respect for those in power who have access to avenues other than conflict yet move to war, those who mascarade in remembrance yet fail to heed the warning of "Never Again"
