It's hard to imagine what it must have been like in there, in darkness with the stench of faeces and urine and death filling the oxygen depleted space, and the panic and despair from husbands and fathers, brothers, sisters, lovers.

Yet despite the sadness and anger we all felt, and the compassion we feel now for the families back home, who can honestly say that as tragic as it was they did not think, even fleetingly, that it would serve as a deterrent to others?
