Dozy Moon.

Dozy Moon.

We are making bread for the hungry

Raucous laughter is coming from the roof

It is shaking uncontrollably

Da says it’s just a storm

It’ll pass soon

There’ll be a dozy moon tonight

Best to stay home and sit

In the firelight

Sit tight

It’ll be a long night

At least we still have the floor

Under our feet

That should save us

From another cold snap

He hands me a chunk of bread

No meat today

The windows chatter amongst themselves

Sneezing dust particles into the air

“It’s ok, da”

His eyes chink back at mine

You’re a good girl

C’mon drink up

It’s nearly your bedtime

Early to bed

Early to shine

My eyes greet the crib

My skin itches

As the grey sheets

Snarl at me.
