Christmas at Terminal Three
Sim-ply ha-ving a wonderful Christmas time
The Travelator hums with Advent cheer
I got all my gifts on Amazon Prime
Tesco’s delivered the wine, the beer
I have been vaccinated against Seasonal Stress
And McCartney on the Public Address
Don’t make me go to Lapland
Wherever that may be
For the holidays I have nothing planned
I might stop at Terminal Three
You can leave Christmas at my door
Wrapped up in white plastic on the floor
Between Starbucks and the Duty Free
Photographed by EVRi
And every day will be
A repeat of the day before
Waking across three seats
To the familiar whine of the vacuum’s drone
And Crushing Candy
And Toblerone.
And blinking red eyed at florescent lights
And flurries of cancelled flights
And runway lights - white, red and green
Flicker jollily, hollily in between
The scuttling of cargo
Reflected in the window
I see the perfume counters billow
In waves of five star luxury scent
Golden, shimmering, spent
I’ll celebrate the day
with a pint of Staropramen
Served by a distracted barman
On double time pay
And then I’ll take - hands down the most Christmassy thing about Christmas -
A Festive Bake
Flaky pastry topped with crumb
Stuffed with stage and cranberry sauce
From Greggs. Of course.
The arrivals and departures board is frozen and in limbo
On this, the occasion of my Terminal Three Crimbo
Feliz Navidad
