Fairy Floss

Sweet floss brings happiness,

With tender finesse,

It greets,

As joy spreads in fleeting beats.

Floss compound with fairy,

Is magic within a combination of sweet, tender, and airy.

Fairies spin with rhythmic gait,

Blending sugar’s gleam with air in interplait.

Their wings flutter, gathering air,

A tinkling dance with beauty fair,

Giving birth to a harmony of shapes,

That mirrors dreams and fleeting escapes.

Channeling joy through taste buds’ delight,

Flooding the soul with colors bright.

“Buy one, Sir” said a tutee,

The maker smiled and gave it for free.

He rushed to his mom, “It’s free!”

And went away with a joyful whoopee.

For the rules of fairies simply say,

Money takes their magic away.

The story of this sugary delicacy begins in the late 19th century, a period marked by rapid innovation and a sweet tooth for discovery. In 1897, William Morrison, a dentist, and John C. Wharton, a confectioner, collaborated to invent a machine that melted sugar and spun it into airy strands using centrifugal force. By 1904, they introduced their invention to the masses at the St. Louis World's Fair, branding it as "fairy floss." The name itself conjures images of magical, ethereal strands, light and delicate as if spun by fairies themselves.

Thanks Yanma.
Something of an irony that a dentist should be involved in the manufacture of candy floss😉.
