"The Great Expectation"

Oh, dear citizen, so pathetically serene,
Waiting for greatness to descend, like a divine dream.
Ha...ha...ha... The absurdity is rich!
You crave excellence, but effort's a distant itch.
You point fingers, blame the system, the fate, the skies,
But your own inertia's the anchor that denies.

Wake up, dear slumberer, and shatter the chains,
Your country's greatness begins with your own strained pains!

"Chains" what chains? you have an arrogant assumption that we are all lazy failures looking for handouts.

Many members have been very successful in their own field, they are also successful poets because they are sensitive - intelligent, politicly and socially aware. Their poems are worth reading.

To quote your introductory sample poem "Avoid unnecessary interactions" So be it.

"....your own inertia's the anchor that denies."

Tell that to the lady down our street, confined to a wheelchair, who's just had her benefits cut because she doesn't "meet the threshold" or some such bull!
