"Curse of Connection"

In the hollow of solitude, I found a fleeting peace,
A refuge from the ravages of hearts that cease,
To beat in harmony, and instead, deceive and betray,
Leaving scars that never heal, and a soul that's lost its way.

I trusted, and the poison spread, a stain that won't subside,
A dependence that devoured, and left me to hide,
In the shadows of my own heart, where fears and doubts reside,
A labyrinth of emotions, where darkness is my guide.

The weight of expectation, crushed my soul's fragile form,
The whispered promises, of love and trust, now a distant storm,
That rages on, a reminder of the love that's lost,
A bittersweet reminder, of the heart that's been frost.

So heed my warning, dear heart, beware the curse of connection,
For in the end, it's not the love that's lost, but the self that's been undone,
And when the darkness closes in, and the shadows start to creep,
You'll find that the only refuge, is the solitude you once did keep.
