another year turns, January 

flying past in a blink

so here we are, 

this new year feels softer

than the last, optimistic 

not blasé, workmanlike 

but supple, agreeable,

a year for tying loose ends

paying dues, dusting

corners, renewing what’s 

broken, repairing damage,

a return to honesty

a liberation, to breathe
