From The Art

entry picture

Weaving words of love

To throw a blanket around an angry world

Where hatred and division

Are like artillery rounds

Fired

From tech bros’

Allegedly logical minds

And MMA battles

With

Trumped up claims

Name calling

And a sham

Shaman freed

Dreams of monarchy

And reclaimed masculinity

Do we cower

Go to ground

Or surround ourselves with art and love?

And fight with our flexibility

Creativity

And sensitivity?

Looping cursive script

Into patchwork pieces

A tightly woven silk vest

Can

Deflect a bullet

And provide warmth

From this far-flung coastal out reach

Love and art reaches out

An outpost of hope

A last burning beacon

Turning threads

And beams into hopeful reflections

Undefeated we shine

We are the light

Shaded, distant

Laughably small

But love kindles power

Tiny knitted, woven, felted squares

Enmesh and spread a protective throw

It starts with one loop

One stroke

One touch of brush on paper

One dab of ink

Do not think you are too insignificant

It starts with you
