touch the downy red petals

in the heat

 

see the swell of high noon sun

eclipse the blue sky above

 

for now we are oblivious to

the dew of our mouths

kissing the concrete of these ruins

 

and the oasis in the distance is become a sea

that has swallowed our hearts

yet the waters will not move
