Tramlines

entry picture

This is no gritted surface here

But a pane of sheet glass and ice

The trajectory from cradle to grave

A circuit, spiralling round

Turning, revolving

A tricky journey to take

How to navigate this then

avoiding the wormholes

Those defects will sink you.

Without any map,

a strategy paramount then

to run this gauntlet

Playing it safe

Moving inch by inch

Will not gain much ground.

Skittering and sliding headlong,

unfocused propulsion,

is a dangerous road

A sled then perhaps

For a frictionless glide.

Travelling at speed,

A wild kind of ride.

Though little comprehension

If just rolling blind

Tracks grow circuit by circuit

Resistance free routes

These tramlines are slicker

definitely quicker,

but will return you to depths

you’ve drowned in before

So you MUST pay attention

Read the flags, mind the gaps

bank in those corners

learn to pivot and steer

Forge a way through with purpose

And carve them without fear
