The holding back of tears and anger

entry picture

Eighteen years older

than the average age of the infants in this class

that she is sitting at the back of

as for the moment an observer

and hopefully a teacher to be

already she isn't too keen on the stern tactics

of the woman who is telling the children

( her arms folded while doing so in an overbearing way )

to clear away their excercise books, AND!

to SIT UP STRAIGHT AND PAY ATTENTION!

to the questions she is about to ask

she barks out the first one

NOISES! children NOISES! I WANT YOU ALL TO THINK ABOUT THE NOISES

THAT YOU MAY HEAR THAT ARE DISTURBING YOU WHILE YOU ARE TRYING TO GET TO SLEEP

the trainee teacher see's a lot of little heads turning towards each others puzzled expressions

LOOK TO THE FRONT!

is the very loudly bawled out instruction

please miss says the first brave hand raiser

a dog barking?

VERY GOOD TIMOTHY! she bellows and still without any signs of a smile

YES JANE?

little Jane timidly suggests clouds passing her bedroom window

( oh dear the observer think's that she senses the approach of annoyance )

NOISES JANE! NOISES!

PASSING CLOUDS DO NOT MAKE NOISES!

the poor little girls cringing embarrassment is all too obvious

N-O-I-S-E-S is hammered out on the blackboard

in huge chalky letters as other raised hands like this womans warmth and compassion

are being ignored

the corridor bell rings hometime

walking to her car the young lady takes with her

a new learning from todays experience

to never ever stop warmth and compassion teaching their own lessons

to those who prefer to leave it outside the classroom

that night

still feeling so sorry for little Jane

she tries to get some sleep but the N-O-I-S-E-S of passing clouds won't let her
