Spot imposter AI poems on World Poetry Day!

entry picture

What will you be doing on World Poetry Day, Friday 21 March? North Tyneside council’s Northumberland Park has come up with a topical and possibly controversial idea – an AI poetry trail around the park. Spot the poems, and decide which ones have been written by AI, and which ones haven’t. The trail is open from 10.30am - and it’s free. The poems are on the themes of Peace and Unity. Maps are available from the visitor centre lobby, café, and King Edward Road main entrance.

Park warden Fiona Betts said: "The idea to use mostly AI-generated poems with a few scattered amongst them that are written by real-life people, was to see whether, with the current rise in AI use, it is as individually creative as people. It will be interesting to see whether visitors have any preference."

Quite terrifying on the face of it, but, who knows, perhaps something good will emerge and human poets will have to shape up to match it.
But who decides what is 'good'? And is 'good' the right word? Perhaps we are heading to a future of the adequate.
