Caroline Bird Poetry Masterclass available to all

Following Anthony Anaxagorou's mind-stretching masterclass, re-released last week, we've now re-launched Caroline Bird's workshop, giving you a whole new set of challenges to stretch and stimulate your poetry muscles.

If you always do what you always did, they say, you'll always get what you always got. So, if you want to breathe new life into how and what you write, this workshop can send you away with a set of new ideas and techniques.

And, who better than Caroline to act as your tutor, guide, challenger-in-chief? "Bird is irrepressible; she simply explodes with poetry. The work erupts, spring-loaded, funny, sad, deadly - you don't know if a bullet will come out of the barrel or a flag with the word BANG on it ..." Simon Armitage

From English literature student at Oxford University, and president of Oxford Poetry Society, Caroline has gone on to publish eight poetry collections and has been shortlisted for umpteen major awards, as well as winning the  Forward Prize for Best Collection in 2020 for The Air Year, following in the footsteps of poets such as Carol Ann Duffy, Ted Hughes and Seamus Heaney.

As well as her radio work, she is a much-performed, award-winning playwright, something that very much informs this ingenious workshop.

These, originally sell-out masterclass sessions were produced for Write Out Loud by Matt Abbott, a successful poet in his own right, as well as poetry producer, organiser and much-in-demand teacher.

Now, we are making the videos available to anyone who wants to take a fresh approach to their poetry writing, (and perhaps help if you are entering Write Out Loud's 20th anniversary competition before the 11th April deadline).

There are no fees, but please make a donation if you can afford it, using the link provided. And please give feedback by commenting on YouTube.
