Cinnamon Press' Writing Awards
Cinnamon Press, the innovative, independent publisher based in North Wales, has just announced that it is now accepting submissions for its latest competitions – The Cinnamon Press Writing Awards.
The Poetry Collection Award helps provide a platform for new voices in poetry, and the winner will have his or her collection published with Cinnamon Press, as well as receiving a prize of £100. In addition, the best poems submitted will be published in an anthology, and several other collections have been commissioned as a result of being short-listed; entry includes a copy of the winners’ anthology.
The Short Story Award is open to both new and published authors, and the first prize of £100 and publication, will be awarded for a story of between 2,000 and 4,000 words. Up to ten runners-up stories’ will also be published in the winners’ anthology, a copy of which is sent to every entrant.
The Novel/Novella Writing Award aims to encourage new authors, enabling them to achieve a first publication in this genre. The winning author will receive a prize of £400 and also have their first novel published by Cinnamon Press. Four runners-up will also receive a full appraisal of their novel, and other novels have, in the past, been commissioned by Cinnamon Press, as a result of short-listing in the competition.
You should submit up to ten poems (up to 40 lines), your short story, or the first 10,000 words of your novel, all previously unpublished, by Tuesday, 30th November, 2010. There is a fee to enter of £16 each category, which will include a copy of the winners’ anthology for entrants to the Poetry and Short Story categories; and you can submit your entry by post or online. If you are entering the poetry or novel/novella categories, you should not previously have had a full poetry collection or a novel/novella published, though short story writers may have had stories, but not a single author collection published.
Please read all the rules and guidelines carefully before submitting your entry. You can find out more at:
